Snow-Sock Direction Marks: Check the Exact Product

MATTE Auto editorial project

Checklist for interpreting a snow-sock orientation mark

If a snow sock carries an arrow, label or other orientation mark, use the instructions for that exact product to interpret it. Do not assume every textile traction device uses the same markings.

Identify before interpreting

Find the series and product code, then locate the matching fitting directions. A package illustration may refer to a particular construction or version. Preserve those details when asking for help, rather than sending a cropped arrow without the product identity.

Avoid copying another item

A familiar colour, similar strap or online fitting clip does not establish the meaning of your product’s mark. Instructions for another series can be useful for understanding the question, but they should not replace the directions supplied for the item being fitted.

Resolve uncertainty while stationary

If a symbol remains unclear, stop the fitting process in an appropriate setting and ask the manufacturer or supplier. Send a clear photograph of the complete item and the relevant mark. Do not use road movement as an experiment to discover which orientation was intended.

  • Product identity
  • Matching instruction
  • Complete view of the mark

A direction mark is useful when it is connected to its own explanation. Keep that explanation with the kit so the next driver does not have to make a fresh guess at the roadside.
